This is my first review for 1lesscar, and I'm pretty psyched about it... even if I got to do it because no one else would wear the "fanny pack"... or was it just that I was enlightened enough to know that it is indeed a hip pack, a difference which strips away those bulging sacks full of tissues and disposable cameras that we remember at eye level from our childhood visits to the amusement park in the ‘80s. Besides, if you say "fanny pack" to a British person, they will laugh uncontrollably; they call it a "bum bag," which makes me laugh uncontrollably.

I happen to be a big fan of hip packs, and often string conventional purses around my waist to achieve the same effect, so I was a little too excited about testing out the WIG hip sack. Also, it's black, silver, neon green, blue, and red - some of my favorite colors. I wanted to wear it right away... however, as a girl who has no trouble keeping her pants up, I lacked a belt. So, I used a silk scarf at first. I found I could even sling it over one shoulder like a messenger bag, albeit a very small one. These days, I rock a matching spider man belt with it. WIG has a larger hip sack available on their website, but this seems to be the petite, more wallet-sized version. It is perfectly suitable for carrying the bare necessities - wallet, keys, phone - and maybe even a camera, or a tiny book, or a bunch of stickers, but don't get any dreams of grandeur. Of course, there is always the option of hanging stuff from the bag, as it is pretty sturdy.

I was very disappointed to find that a u-lock will not hang from the small loops at the top of the bag, and just a bit more slack from the belt loops would easily remedy this. I wore it to a courier's union meeting right after I got it, and as I left the building heard "I like your WIG bag!" from one of the messengers. Ah, brand recognition, right? We then discussed how it was too small to hold enough beer, and whether or not it could even fit one. It would have to be a can anyway- a bottle's a tight squeeze. We agreed, however, that it is a cool bag. As someone who rides a pedicab, I find a hip bag extremely useful, especially because I like to work wearing a skirt, often depriving me of pockets for my phone or change. This bag is the perfect size for working rickshaw, as it basically serves as an external set of pockets on your belt. It is likewise useful for regular bike riding, for work or not, and I usually keep mine on a belt in my messenger bag in case I want to stash the bag and carry my valuables around. For what it's worth, you can also hula hoop while wearing this bag.

PS: The photo here isn't a very good representation of the bag. I will try to get a better one, including the matching spiderman belt and a better shot of my ass...very soon.
