I talked to Wald about sending a basket our way- they said sure and asked what we were thinking- my exact words were “the bigger the better”.
I was thinking I could use it to take orders to the post office and what not. The idea was to put it on my fixed gear- a run around the city bike. This basket showed up and when they say giant they’re not kidding. I could carry an eighth grader in this thing.
I tried to install it on my bike and ran into a problem the hardware they send you to connect to the axles doesn’t work with my fork. The fork needs to be pretty flat with the washers, and mine are tapered in, so there was no way to tighten down the axel nuts to hold the tire on. So the idea of putting it on my city bike was down the tube, but then the Yuba Mundo showed up and it all came together.
I put the basket on the front of the Mundo and with the long tail it was the ultimate cargo bike. The basket is well built and comes with serious hardware that will hold the basket under a pretty heavy load. Using this basket was kind of like having a pick up truck. I would just toss what ever in there.
I carried tools, mail, a ulock and straps to tie loads down. The basket is built tough enough that I could stretch bungee cords around it and hook them in place as storage. I really like this basket- I'm still looking for the perfect bike to put it on, and I'm sure it will come to me when I see it. If you need to carry a lot of something this basket is the basket for the job.
