Origin 8 sent me set of their carbon bars to test out and I was totally stoked on it. I have an older Trek 1500 that I totally like and am in the process of making lighter and faster, plus its an aluminum frame, so adding some carbon will help with the stiff ride.
The bars are pretty nice- they come in 3 widths so what ever your shoulders are they've got you covered. My shoulders are pretty wide, so I went with 42 mm. I mounted the bars with excitement and went out for a ride.
Now I have been wrestling with the idea of carbon bars- I always picture in my head the bars breaking as I'm climbing and me impaling myself on the stem, so the first ride was getting over my fear. I was surprised at how stiff the bars felt- I don’t know why I thought there would be some give but these things feel stiffer than my aluminum bars.
The drop is not too deep and the ergo design is really comfy. I've been riding these for over a month now and they seem pretty great to me. I have yet to take them on a really nice long ride, but I think they will be fine.
I know there are some people out there talking shit about Origin 8 saying they're just Chinese crap, but to me this feels like a well-made product. I'm trusting it to hold up and believe it will. The price is good and if you're not one of those guys who names off all of his components by brand name, there a good bar at a fair price.
Ps- don’t laugh too hard at my packing tape bar tape job! I still haven’t got my levers where I want so I keep having to rewrap my bars and that’s gets expensive. The added bonus is it really uglies them up and with all the crap I've had stolen I might be able to hold onto these for a while!
