Mountain Smith's Bike Cube is mainly aimed towards people who race their bikes. Straight up- the last time I raced a bike, I was under 12, if not 10, and it was across a long church parking lot across from my house.
I wanted to race BMX REALLY BAD when I was a kid. My dad took me out to our local track to watch a race, but we showed up towards the end and didn't catch any action. Sadly, that's as far as my racing career went.
All of that aside, the Bike Cube Deluxe would be a super rad bag to have for anyone that takes cycling even half-way seriously. Maybe you're like me and forget where you put your things, or are always losing them, and/or you wear a helmet along with cycling specific shoes and clothing, or maybe you need to travel to ride a specific spot... Any of the above include you?
So far this bag has been a total blessing as far as bags go. The BCD has product specific pockets keeping everything organized where you want it, so it's ready when you need it.
The middle/main compartment is REALLY padded and has a removable divider, but with it in it's the perfect spot for your helmet, clothes, and/or shoes. There's also a padded eyewear pocket and PLENTY of ventilation throughout this one! There's still a good 4"'s of space above all of that if needed too!
Both side compartments feature tri-panel loading access so the bag will stay up AND open- a great feature in my opinion.
The front compartment is roughly 4"'s wide with three small mesh pockets on the outside flap, and 2 larger mesh pockets on the other side.
The rear compartment is similar to the front, but with different sized pockets on each side. On the inside-side, there's 2 big pockets- 1 mesh and the other poly rip-stop. The outer side of this compartment has a zippered mesh pocket the goes almost a third of the way down and is as long as the bag. Then on the outside of the back compartment is a velcro pocket with a sweet removable, fold-out changing mat to make life easier in the parking lot!
Another rad thing about this bag is that it comes with a really rad tool bag that comes in super handy on the regular.
On Mountain Smith's site they say "Feel like a pro at your next race and arrive in style!".
I recently had to move into the minivan, and there's only a handful of things in the back- my bed, my bike, and the Bike Cube Deluxe...keeps the new house pretty neat & organized- not to mention all my gear in one place!
Specs: 15" x 15" x 15" (38cm x 38cm x 38cm), 4lbs 5oz (1.96kg), and sports a volume of 3417 cubic inches (56L) of space! I'll admit when I first loaded it up and packed it full that it seemed a little big, but when taking into consideration EVERYTHING that's inside and the other things it'll hold on top of that, the BCD isn't that big at all.
Other features include D-rings for the included padded shoulder strap, a wrapped haul handle, and it also fits into all Modular Hauling Systems. I also dig the reflective piping for greater visibility wherever I am.
I never would have thought about a bag like this if I hadn't luckily come across it, but it beats the hell out of a duffel bag, your messenger bag, and even that roll-top backpack you've got when it comes to hauling gear. The Bike Cube Deluxe gets two thumbs up from me- the second thumb because the bag is on my shoulder!
