I'm really into touring books and DVDs. The problem is there is a lot of crap out there. This is not one of those. This DVD is really a joy to watch and it got me stoked to get out on the road.
The basic idea is for this guy Gwendal to ride from Patagonia to Canadian Arctic. It’s a hell of a plan and something I wish I could do.
The cinematography is really good for a small independent video. I feel like most of this video is about the trip from Patagonia to the US border, and being that Gwendal is Canadian I get the feeling he wasn’t really impressed with touring in the US, but maybe that was just me.
This video isn’t so much about the bike but more about the people. Gwendal and his girlfriend seem to have a way with people. I mean, I'm not sure I could just hang out in a small hut with some family and eat their dinner. I wish I could, and maybe if I did a tour like this I would. I'm totally impressed with the way they just seem to never be uncomfortable.
There is little bike stuff thrown in- He builds a custom tandem that ends up not being the best for the gravel/dirt/foot paths that they end up on and has some serious rear wheel problems.
Seeing the crap they were riding through makes me want to get a nice set of 26" wheels for my touring bike. If you're looking for a DVD that will make you want to buy a plane ticket to a another country and throw caution to the wind, this DVD is for you.
