Update 6.10 2009

Been about a month now of stopping a loaded pedicab and they're still going strong- pads are still good. I've rode these brakes through rain and everything this city has to offer, and they still stop me on a dime even with 600 lbs in the back!
I'm thinking off putting disk brakes on my regular bike, and I will for sure give IRD a call.

I have always wanted to put a disk brake on the front of my pedicab. I love the look of the disk brake and the stopping power in the rain. It seemed like a good idea.

IRD sent one of their Dual Banger Disk Brakes for me to test out. I mounted it and have been riding it for few weeks now. The brake was easy to mount- no big surprises. They also included the yokozuna compressionless housing which is really nice.

I have dealt with a few other mechanical disk brakes in the past and the thing I really like about this IRD is the dual piston action. Most bakes just squeeze from one side. While it works, the IRD seems to give more braking power with both sides squeezing. I used it in the rain and it worked so well my front tire would lock up and slide if I had a few people in the back!

My thoughts are, if this brake can stop 130 lbs of bike plus 500 pounds of people it should be fine on a regular bike. I’m going to keep testing this brake and see how it holds up, but right now I think its really nice compared to other disk brakes in the same price range. I'll let you know how long it takes me to burn through a set of pads.
