Misfit Psycles makes singles speed bikes, conversions, & components. They sent us a couple handle bars to review: their ME2 bar and FU2 bar. This time i'm going with the FU2 bar. I took the drop bars off the IRO Angus and threw these on.

The FU2 bar is sort of an old style hoopty bar made from aluminum, keeping it strong yet light at only 351 grams. I know i'm losing a hand position or two switching from drop bars, but it's a much more comfortable ride when all is said and done. I prefer a more upright position as well as the hand placement that these bars give.
(SIDE NOTE: this is nothing against the Angus- when you order one you get the bars you want, it just comes stock with drop bars.)

At 600mm wide, the FU2 bar is a little wider than i'm used to, but felt pretty comfy from the get go. When I was years younger I thought skinny bars were where it was at, and shortened whatever bars i had. Not so short that they were more or less just grips like i see a lot of people riding (and don't quite understand), but a couple inches were sure to go. Not anymore- i've come to enjoy the extra leverage and strength that a longer bar provides. If i were cutting through rows of traffic i might be a little nervous of the length every once and awhile, but where i live most of the streets are slow, two lane roads. also, a lot of old railroad lines that were closed for years have been converted for bicycles- either being paved or aggregate, so there's that too. So traffic isn't as much of a concern for me as someone in a major city, but ya always gotta keep an eye open wherever you are...

Overall, i dig these bars and would take them any day over drop bars for daily riding. The packaging has a review on the back from Joe Whitehair from DIRT RAG magazine (#130) of the original FU bar, and he suggests throwing one on your mountain bike, so that's my plan for the ME2 bar. Lucky for me there's trails right across the street from our farm! So in some ways living where i do (northern MI) has it's advantages.
