This came to me unexpectedly, and I'm glad it found my way, let me tell ya! It comes in so handy- anytime you need to make an adjustment just put it on the stand, and it stays put. Not only that, but the clutch allows you to rotate your bike 360 degrees. Totally cool.
I'm not sure how many average riders think about repair stands, but it's one of those things you never knew you needed, but now that you have it you don't know how you ever got by without it. Seriously- it's that kind of thing.
I got to go "behind the scenes" once at my local shop (that I won't name) once, and they had a cool idea rigged for stands, but they just sorta held the bike out- it still wobbled back & forth because there wasn't a clamp. Enter Feedback's Sport-Mechanic Stand.
Made of an aluminum/steel combo, it's lightweight, yet tough as nails in all the right places. Reminiscent of a camera tri-pod, the stand starts out similar at the ground. Although the tri-pod legs can be locked at any degree, fully down is always recommended- you'll need a little room to work with, with a 54" base diameter. But it doesn't tip, and is super sturdy. Also has rubber feet, so it won't slip.
Keep going up and there's a knob that telescopes the stand from 42" to 65.3".
Then you get to the top, and the camera tri-pod disappears and becomes the repair stand you know & love. It's got a super easy to use dial/clutch which pulls the arm up and lets you point it in any direction. Then the spinner knob holds your bike in place- any place, so you can get to any spot with ease. Really rad...
When you're done working, the stand folds up tight and can be stored nearly anywhere- even under the bed. It only weighs 12.6 lbs., but holds up to 65 lbs., so you shouldn't have any problem there. If you have a heavier bike, they have an array of stands to choose from.
They also sent their Flopstop with it- it's a small, telescoping rod that mounts between your seat post and your handlebars, keeping them locked straight ahead! The rod is aluminum, but hitches to your bike with these rubber stopper straps. Really quick & easy to put on, take off, and really handy!
Fixing & adjusting a bike without one is kinda like taking a really great picture without a tri-pod- It can be done, but use the right tool for the right job, and it makes things a breeze.
We used it putting the Raleigh together, and it made everything so much easier, not to mention quicker! Top notch, and like I said- it really is one of those things that you couldn't live without after you had one. Honest.
Like a true dude, I didn't read the instructions until after we used it, and then after I used it again on the Traitor- clamping to the seat post is recommended. My bad.
