WOW, that's the first word that comes to my mind with my new Day 6 Dream bike. It has given me back the bike riding that I so love. Here is how I came about riding this great bike.
I had knee surgery in the Spring of this year and went through intense therapy for 4 weeks, 3 times a week. When I had completed the therapy my knee was still very sore, but my therapist's last words were "Don't let that knee lock up".
I took those words to heart. It was still very painful, so I got my bike out. I figured if I could ride every day or so it would help with the healing.
I have a Raleigh that I have had for 10 years and I love this bike. However, I have a lot of medical problems and have always dealt with the pain of my hands going numb, wrists hurting, my back aching, and more. I just thought if I still wanted to ride, I needed to accept the pain.
The biggest problem was my knee was still so weak and the other knee was also weak from putting all the weight on that one while recovering so... I kept falling on my Raleigh. I couldn't hold the bike up well when I stopped and I didn't have enough strength to take off either, so I suffered many falls.
I actually got very good at falling with the tuck and roll, but finally with much regret and embarrassment I had to quit riding.
Now, I come from a biking family. My whole family rides. My youngest son owns One Less Car and doesn't even own a car. It was through his business and good friend of his that I was able to check out this kinda weird looking bike called the Day 6 Dream.
At first I wouldn't even touch it. I had gone through enough falls, pain, and embarrassment. I watched my son ride it, his friend, and my husband... all loving it. We took it home and I looked at it everyday in my garage for about a week. Then I thought what the heck! What's one more fall?!
Oh my gosh, it was love at first ride. I couldn't believe how comfortable it was! I also have a herniated disk in my lower back and neck, and this bike has lumbar support!!
I never fell because my legs could touch the ground from my seat because you kinda peddle out instead of straight up and down. I've put 185 miles on it in 3 months. That might not sound much to some people, but to me it was awesome!
It's November and I'm still riding!! There is NO pain. My shoulders, neck, hands, wrist, back, knees... NOTHING hurts on this bike. I had my Raleigh adjusted many times in hopes of pain relief but it didn't last. This bike is incredible. I have trouble believing it was not designed by an orthopedic doctor.
My nurse practitioner was so impressed with my knee and my 20 pound weight loss she asked what I was doing. I told her about my new bike and she actually asked me to send her the website to her home e-mail address. She was very impressed with what she read and said she was going to tell some of her patients about this bike.
I only ride bike trails (don't like traffic!) and I can't tell you how many people have stopped me and asked me where I got this bike. One man actually walked up to me and told me he has a herniated disk in his lower back and thought he could ride a bike like this. I also get great comments from the younger generation saying "What a cool cruiser"!
I might mention that a recumbent bike does not work for me because I have to sit straight up and the Day 6 is much easier on the knees than a recumbent.
I was trying to think of the down side of this bike and the only 2 things I can think of is the speed and weight.
I have a computer on my bike and I've noticed that when I get below 4 miles per hour- which doesn't happen very often unless it's a really big hill- that the bike tends to get very wobbly in the front. I realize any bike will do that, but it's more prevalent on the Day 6. It's also heavier than any bike I've ever rode, so it makes transporting it a little more difficult. But that's okay, I'll pay that price for all the comfort it gives me!
Other than that, I love this bike. It has made my summer. I'm going to be 59 years old next spring and I plan on riding for a long time. Some days will be long rides and some short, but I know I can ride with NO PAIN!!
I so want to thank this company for making this bike. I only wish that this bike was available in some of the bike stores in Michigan. We have so many beautiful bike trails and there are probably a lot of people like me out there that are handicapped but still wants to ride.
This bike is the answer. I just can't say enough good things about it. I feel like a kid again when I'm on it. It's a "Baby Boomers Dream"! It rides so easy- I love it! Thanks guys!!
