With cooler weather here, Chrome sent me a Champ Jacket to try out. They sent some ¾ pants last year and those things are still like new- even after a lot of use, so I knew Chrome made good quality stuff and this jacket didn’t disappoint. I have to say that this is one of the best pieces of urban outerwear I have. When I say urban I mean everyday use. While you could show up at club ride with it, I'm sure it would look funny with the lycra... you get what im saying.
This jacket is very well thought out. It fits perfect and performs very well. The jacket has plenty of pockets to carry all of your random stuff and says it has a mp3 pocket with headphone hole, but to be honest I haven’t found it yet...but I also haven’t tried very hard. Thing I really like is the back cargo pocket. It goes all the way across the back of the jacket and about half way up. The inside is mesh so if its hot it works great as a vent. I like this pocket because it holds a lot of stuff its like a secret back pack. The other day I carried my road morph pump, a set of tire levers, patch kit and a falafel pita, with room to spare.
Chrome doses a good job of making this jacket look like normal jacket. Its got reflective cuffs for when you're riding- you can hide them by undoing a button and flipping them around. There is also a reflective tail the folds up into the jacket and is held up by magnets. When all the reflective stuff is hid the jacket looks like a more normal "everyday" type of jacket.
This jacket is what I believe to be water resistant- in moderate rain it should be ok. I tested the jacket in a 1-mile mad dash home in a serious rainstorm. It did well considering its not real rain gear! Some wetness got through, but in that rain it would have gotten through anything. I believe this is the perfect jacket for me- I wish I could wear it through the winter, but its not cut out for sub zero temps. If you want a really good cool weather jacket that’s very functional, don't pass the Chrome Champ up!
