Bianchi was very kind to send us a San Jose Pro to review. From the very first ride I knew this was a great bike to ride around the city. While this bike is a cross bike set up to go racing it really works well in the city.
The first thing you will notice is the smooth as butter ride, between the carbon fork, carbon seat post and steel frame. This bike is built to take the abuse of cyclecross, so it’s well suited for the “streets” of Chicago. The rims are burly enough to take the potholes and railroad tracks, and with the cyclocross geometry the occasional bunny hop is not out of the question.
Bianchi was also thinking ahead by including full fenders to keep you dry and this is nice because as the bike snob once said, “because its probably pee” -and that’s the truth. Bianchi also allows you to have brake option, it comes with canti brakes, but has tabs for disk, so if you are into that you're good.
This bike really is a great all around city bike. I kind of wish I had a chance to ride this bike in the winter, but its leaving me to go to the winner of our contest.
The two minor things that if I was going to keep this bike I would change- first, the gearing is pretty low. Its really easy to spin out, so maybe a bigger chain ring for city riding. Next, some cross levers would be cool. In the city riding more heads up is nice. Those two minor things and both really easy to fix. I have to say I really enjoyed my time with this bike and I'm sure if you bought one, you would too.
