If you are a regular follower of our reviews you my have read the review about the Banjo Brothers back pack and how much of fans we are of Banjo Brothers. They really are a great company that makes smart, well thought out, quailty stuff.
I was heading out on tour and need a handle bar bag, so I asked Banjo Brothers, and they weremore then happy to send one for me to test out. I belive the 01067 is the flagship model of the handle bar bags. They offer a few different models, but this seems to be at the top.
The mounting was pretty straight forward- it comes with a quick release mountain bracket and hardwear. The thing that seemed odd was the stainless cable that came with it, but during installation it all came together- the cable wraps under your stem and back to the bag. The idea is, if the bag ever broke loose this would hold it up and avert disaster...i like it.
I wasn't sure about the quick release, but while on tour it was nice to go for a day ride into town and be able to lock up, pop off the bag and only carry that around and with shoulder strap that comes with it- it was nice to carry even if it looked a little purse-ish. I was fine with it.
Like the back pack it has a removable water proof liner- I kept mine in, but if rain wasn't going to be an issue you could easly take it out. There is also a removable map sleeve on top. This is a good idea- last tour I had maps and had to stop at every turn and pull them out- the idea of it being right there is nice.
The one problem about the map sleeve is it opens on one side so you can slip the map in and out and I have hears that it lets in a little moisture if its raining- not huge deal if you're using a regular map, but if your using a google map you printed at home you might be in trouble.
Now the part I'm have a little problem with- the bag opens from the front and has a buckle that keeps it closed. When you open it the top comes toward you, making it hard to see over it and into the bag. The nice thing about this is that because of the breeze from the bike going forawrd the top stays open on its own.
The other thing is the buckle- it's on the very front and closing and buckling without being able to see the front while riding is almost impossible and a little dangerous. I mostly left the bukle undone and it was fine...most of the time, but on a down hill the wind would catch the top and it will fly open or a decent size bump will cause it to fly open also. I'm not sure on a solution to this- maybe a zipper on the back.
There are also two mesh pockets on each side that work great for clif bars and stuff that you want quick access to. Over all, I really like the bag- it's got a lot of +'s for sure- the two things I pointed out are a little bothersome, but I'm sure every bag will have a similar problem. If you're looking for a smart handle bar bag and want something you can take off easy and stroll around with, this is the bag for you!
