Next up from Axiom is their QR Urban Rear Grocery Basket. I assume the QR stands for quick release. When this basket showed up I was stoked- it seems like a genius design.
Imagine rolling up to the store, popping off the basket, grabbing the handle and walking around the store with your basket, and then clipping it back on your rack and ride home...its perfect.
The basket is built well and the wood on the bottom is a nice touch. The basket is a little heavy, but to be honest, on a commuting bike who cares!?! The only time you might notice the weight is carrying it around the store.
The quick release is smart and works well. One problem I had is that the one we got had the wrong legs on it. The idea is they put little legs on the bottom so when you have the basket off and set it on a table it will sit level because of the whole quick release set up. The original way is one big leg in the back and two small ones on each side up front so the feet would not get in the way when attaching it to the rack. With ours, we had two big legs and it wouldn’t attach to any rack right. I ended up cutting off the legs all together to get it to fit. Im not sure if this a problem with all the baskets or with just a few and we got lucky enough to get one. Once the leg issue was figured out the basket was cool. It holds a lot of whatever you want. It looks like it could hold two grocery bags side by side pretty easily.
This basket is one of those things I think will help promote urban bicycling. It just makes your every day things easy to do on a bike.
