IRO Angus!

The Angus is IRO's classic track frame only available as a fixed gear bike. It's way sleek and super clean- no braze-ons and only one bottle mount just in case. A front brake mount is available if you feel the need. Even with Reynolds 631 steel tubing, this bike (56cm size) still weighs in under 20 lbs.- 18.25 to be exact!

Also features a 1" threaded fork with 120mm rear dropouts and accepts tires up to 700 x 28cc.

The frame, cranks, and cogs are available in an array of sizes to suit your needs. Handlebar choices are standard drop bars or bullhorns, three different pedal choices, as well as three different headset choices too! As I already stated, the Angus is fixed only, but will accept a cog on both sides, so they do offer an additional cog if you'd like. Most components are available in silver or black.

Receiving this bike before spring, it was really hard to wait until then to ride it. I was downtown one day and noticed that the city had taken all the snow from the local parking lots and made a bad ass, hard packed snowmobile track- skinny tires be damned, I couldn't resist! The track was packed so hard that it was like riding on slightly bumpy pavement. I had a total blast!!! it took all the berms, all the hills, and all the gaps the track had to offer with no problems what so ever!

I currently live (in Frankfort, MI) a couple hours away from some of my family, most of my friends, and my bands, so I tend to do a lot of driving back and forth. I decided to leave the Angus in Muskegon, my second home, so I'd have a bike to ride when I'm there (at least 2-3 times a month for a few days at a time). That ended up being an excellent choice!

On the streets, the Angus is back in black, mad fast, yet ninja quiet...so quiet you could roll up on just about anybody and unless they had eyes in the back of their heads, or a pair of those sweet sunglasses from the 80's that had the mirrored strips on the inside of the lens so you cold see behind you- both of which are highly unlikely. Total ninja.

I'm going to be so bold to say I think the Angus could stand up to nearly any other model that's twice the price with no problems. If you're ordering an Angus and you've got an extra $100, I'd upgrade to the Chris King headset from the FSA- although I've had no problems with the FSA whatsoever- but I've always heard such good things about them- there's gotta be a reason! But like I said, the stock FSA headset is fine.

I did replace the stock drop bars out for the FU2 bars that Misfit Psycles sent in, and I like those a lot better. I've just never been a big fan of drop bars, and since i was used to Swobo's Hoopty bar from my winter whip, the FU2 bar is similar, so it felt more comfortable. I like how they handle and the more upright position, while still achieving excellent speeds. You can't drop down super low like you can with drop bars and really move, but it's all personal preference. Go with what feels right for you. Being a track bike and built for speed, I've been thinking about throwing the drop bars back on though and giving them another shot.

Being a demo, mine didn't come with pedals, so I threw on a pair of Egg Beaters from Crank Bros., and if you read my review of those, you know how i feel...but just in case, they totally rule. I still love them, and have since scored another pair from Ebay! Again, I suggest going with what works best for you- whether it's a different type of clip in, or standard platforms with toe straps, ride with what works best for you! I really can't stress that enough.

The Angus is not for you if you are uber cool with your freestyle tricks- the bike is tight, and you won't be seeing how many times you can twirl your bars around while riding a wheelie.

The Angus is a track bike through and through, but just as great on the street. I wish spring had come sooner- winter seems to last forever around here, and i didn't want to totally trash it with all the crap they throw on the roads when i have a bike for that! But alas, spring has been here for a bit now, our trees are finally getting leaves, and the Angus has been seeing some miles.

If you're shopping for a new bike that rides like it's top of the line but don't have a huge wallet, the Angus might just be the ride you're looking for!

I'll be back with a follow up next month!
